Four Tips finding a good ELT job in South Korea!

Recruiter Assistance A simple “ESL Jobs in Korea” Google search will return numerous listings. However, weeding through these to find not only one that matches your goals, but is also from a reputable school, takes time. If applying for private jobs, it’s highly recommended to use a recruiter. The schools pay these businesses to find them good teachers, so there’s no cost to you. The recruiter will listen to your preferenc....

Hi Gary, Unfortunately the government now rarely give approval to apply for the work visa in Hong Kong either. If you have a work visa for Indonesia there are possibilities, but not with a tourist visa. This policy has become strict since end of last year. It gives us a lot of trouble too. Really sorry about the situation.... Robyn SEEMS IF YOU WANT TO TEACH NOW IN CHINA YOU MUST APPLY FROM YOUR HOME COUNTRY.....

I would say it is not impossible to get a job as a non-native English speaker but it is certainly more difficult. My suggestions: 1. Get a CELTA rather than a TEFL. More widely recoginzed and respected. 2. It is easier to gain a position if they see you face-to-face and you are there to help with an immiediate teaching need. Once your foot is in the door, impress them and they will keep you. Thank you.....

But I did it with what was at the time the best teaching establishment: International House in London. And went on to have a very successful career in TEFL, working exactly where I wanted to work. Good question that you asked about recruiters.  If you deal with recruiters based in Asia (China, Korea) often they will advertise jobs that do not really exist.  When they get your information they then often try to push you into one of their available jobs.  I never liked this much.  I know some teachers who recently started offering what may be called a full service recruiting option.  Its called World Wide Teachers. w....

The course that I did in Madrid, Spain at TtMadrid (https://ttmadrid.com/) was focused not only on giving us classes, but also on us making real lesson plans and teaching English to students, so that by the end of it we'd have proper experience. Not true. They are not a scam. How do I know? I've worked for them for about 3 years. It's true that their application process is rigorous - it's not a job for just anyone. You really do need to have experience and a relevant qualification. It's true that sometimes you have to give a "trial lesson" for free. Either 10 minutes or half an hour. The reason why they're always runnin ads is nobody wants to work for them. They scrutinize you like they're the KGB and then when you ask them simple questions about the job, they get tongue tied. The basic deal is new teachers don't get any students. They do demos -- unpaid for prospective students until students pick them to be their tutor.
