Beware Sherry Aokai at sherryaokai@163.com (views: 264)

I debated whether to report this as a scam but decided against. It is not a scam because the jobs (at least, I think) exist. The problem is this recruiter is vague on details. She doesn't really know anything about the schools she is looking for teachers to work at.  She will spam you with 100s of jobs but, aside from the basic info (address, start date, salary, etc.) there is nothing to go on.  I felt like I was being spammed any job s....

I agree but I also know that Find Work Abroad which is a China job site. Same thing. They promote and post hundreds of jobs but don't even know anything about them.  They are like a teacher mill that just spams out jobs they don't know anything about.  They shove you towards a school they don't know anything about and then collect money from the school. They don't really care what happens to you after they sell you the job.  H....

British School of Nardo, Italy (views: 290)

Europe (Italy) - Sat, 16 Sep 2017

The British Schools in Italy are very common and spread all over the country. They are a franchise, but each school can be run very differently, depending on the kind of staff who run them. The British school of Nardo is run by a disgusting man who is rude, very selfish and aggressive to his teaching staff. He seems nice during a Skype interview. He can promise you many things. But after you arrive in Italy, then you realise that the director is ....

Watch out for the Thai Binh Duong or Thái Bình Dương language centers or schools if you are teaching English in Vietnam. The only good thing about this company is the friends you will make. Your salary will vary for no obvious reason but your contract is 26pages long so don't worry they will find a "valid" reason. The company says that your salary is post tax so you should be happy. However most Nationals from English speaking countries are tax exempt for their first 2years in Thailand. So that is BS. "However most Nationals from English speaking countries are tax exempt for their first 2years in Thailand." This is another example of someone who thinks they know something but never bothered to learn or ask. NO-ONE is exempt from personal income in Thailand for a period of time, resident or non-resident.  There are exemptions for income less than 150,000 baht per year but that it is.  After that, you pay income tax or you can't renew ....

I would say it is not impossible to get a job as a non-native English speaker but it is certainly more difficult. My suggestions: 1. Get a CELTA rather than a TEFL. More widely recoginzed and respected. 2. It is easier to gain a position if they see you face-to-face and you are there to help with an immiediate teaching need. Once your foot is in the door, impress them and they will keep you. Thank you.....

But I did it with what was at the time the best teaching establishment: International House in London. And went on to have a very successful career in TEFL, working exactly where I wanted to work. It's very important to choose a TEFL course that will allow for getting teaching practice. The course that I did in Madrid, Spain at TtMadrid (https://ttmadrid.com/) was focused not only on giving us classes, but also on us making real lesson plans and teaching English to students, so that by the end of it we'd have proper experience. There are plenty of jobs out there and even some that will hire someone without the qualifications. That being said, it is usually for those that are there and ready to join to fill an immediate need. Applying online for a future position will mean they will pass over to wait for someone that meets all the qualifications. Regardless, you must remember that without the necessary qualifications you may be unable to receive a proper work visa.....
