At the Victoria Language School (VLS) I worked during the morning as a guest foreign English teacher at public primary schools alongside a TA, for the 2nd and 3rd grade with 50 students each classroom; in the afternoon and night I worked at one of the multiple VLS campuses for 5 to 12 year olds, in classrooms of 15 to 20 students each . Basically, I taught four to eight different words per lesson by using PPTs, flashcards, songs, mimic, gestures and games. Depending on the age of the students I used those words to engage in a simple conversation or not, also approaching the best students in the class for them to practice and for the others to listen to us.

As a guest English teacher for the soon to be senior high school students of the institute I implemented a class focused on the western world cultures and countries as I did in middle school (see Wujiashan Dongxihu), but with a different method that consisted in more of a presentation/conversation using adult expressions and vocabulary; for the first lesson I basically introduce them to a country and I encourage them to ask me about the culture in question; for the second class the students explained to me all my doubts about their own country (China) or city (Bengbu) by using expressions or vocabulary that I already taught them. For the next lessons the students chose the country they wanted me to talk about, and by the second half of the lesson they did roleplay in different scenarios that I randomly choose (and like in improvisational theatre, everything is allowed) , like tourist in Australia, foreign students in England, Chinese businessman in Canada, children that want to go to Disneyland and parents that want to take them to Scotland for vacation, any scenario can be a good way to practice English.

English teacher for the whole 7th grade (fourteen classrooms) at a working class borough in the outskirts of Wuhan, where I developed a class focused in the countries and cultures of the western world specially the anglophones. Each lesson was about a different country or province, providing the students with basic vocabulary and information about them like: the flag, maps, data sheets, culture, cuisine, inventions, creations, sports and songs related to the country. During the lesson they practice the language by being exposed to a different culture, but they also follow some traditional methods like repeating the new vocabulary, checking the pronunciation, answering questions about the lesson and searching for new words in the dictionary.
By the end of the year my students were more aware about the world in general and that the English language is probably the best tool for them to understand it.
At this particular school discipline was also a big part of my lesson, since some of the classrooms were extremely naughty and disrespectful.

Teacher assistant for the 1st and 2nd grade, in charge of 6 to 12 year olds (mixed class according to their English level, not their age) at Saturday morning; and after March, as a Monday to Saturday teacher assistant. The job aim was to help the English teacher with the students that weren’t paying enough attention by approaching and explaining them in a personal way so they didn’t get left behind by the class.
